The best of British tennis continue to shine in Australia – not only raising hopes of more glory Down Under but hinting at a glorious Wimbledon Championships this summer.
Johanna Konta became Britain's first female grand slam quarter-finalist since 1984 after she edged out Ekaterina Makarova in a nail-biting contest.
It is 32 years since Jo Durie reached the last eight at Wimbledon but Konta ended the wait for the next quarter-finalist as she came from behind to beat Makarova 4-6, 6-4, 8-6 on Margaret Court Arena.
The British number one will now face Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang for a place in the semi-finals. And that’s not all. Andy Murray cruised past Bernard Tomic to the reach the quarter-finals. Murray produced a professional performance on Rod Laver Arena to beat Tomic 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4). The world number two will now play eighth seed David Ferrer for a place in the semis, after the Spaniard had earlier knocked out John Isner in straight sets.
